In a decisive move to accelerate the legal process for drug-related offences, Magistrate Wilbri Hamida M. John of Kenema Magistrate Court No. 2, on December 17, 2025, committed six defendants to stand trial at the High Court of Sierra Leone. This action aligns with the National Drugs Control Act 2008, addressing the prevalent issue of illegal drug production, distribution, and use.
The six defendants—Keifala Kamara, Ibrahim Momoh, Albert Laggah, Mohamed Kamara (two individuals), and Mohamed Jabbie, all residents within the Kenema Judicial District—face charges related to the possession and use of illicit substances.
Specific allegations include Keifala Kamara being found with 30 wraps of Kush, Ibrahim Momoh with a sachet of 250mg Tramadol, Mohamed Jabbie with two sachets of Kush, and Mohamed Kamara (a bike rider) with 103 wraps of Cannabis Sativa.
Magistrate John's ruling followed a review of the evidence, concluding that the prosecution had successfully discharged its duty. Consequently, no plea was taken, and bail was denied. The defendants have been remanded at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Kenema pending their High Court trial. The matter was prosecuted by Woman Police Sergeant 4654 Watta Bakarr.
