A significant milestone in Sierra Leone's fight against drug abuse was marked by the graduation of 596 individuals from an intensive eight-week government rehabilitation and reintegration program.
The ceremony, held at the Peace Mission Training Centre (PMTC) in Hastings, featured Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh, who represented President Julius Maada Bio. This cohort is the sixth in less than two years, underscoring the government's sustained commitment to supporting citizens affected by substance abuse.
Chief Minister Sengeh emphasized the initiative as a model of the "One Government" collaborative approach, involving various state and private stakeholders.
He highlighted the program's success in transforming hundreds of lives, stressing that a core mission of the human capital development government is to ensure every citizen can achieve their full potential.
The government is complementing rehabilitation efforts with strict policy changes, including a ban on Tramadol importation in tablet form, and enhanced legal measures to combat the spread of "Kush."
