Osman Daramy Kamara, a camera operator at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), has been detained by the Sierra Leone Police following allegations of theft involving the corporation's equipment. The arrest was formally announced during a police press briefing held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Police Officers Mess in Freetown.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alieu Jalloh, Head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), confirmed that the apprehension followed the disappearance of multiple items from the SLBC studio and offices. According to ACP Jalloh, internal CCTV footage was instrumental in tracking Kamara's movements.
The suspect allegedly gained unauthorized access to the office building through the ceiling. He has reportedly confessed to the thefts, including the removal of a plasma television, which he claims to have sold to an individual in Mount Aureol.
The SLBC management is currently compiling a comprehensive list of all stolen assets. ACP Jalloh stated that the investigation is ongoing and charges are expected to be filed in court once the evidence is fully consolidated.
