The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has officially commenced its Women’s Football Strategy Regional Stakeholder Consultative Engagement, a landmark initiative aimed at shaping the future development of women’s football across the country.
The engagement brings together key stakeholders from all five regions of Sierra Leone, including players, coaches, referees, football administrators, club representatives, and development partners. The consultations are intended to gather views, experiences, and recommendations that will inform the development of a comprehensive national strategy for women’s football.
Providing technical support for the process is FIFA Women’s Football Technical Expert, Thuba Sibanda, who is currently in Sierra Leone to offer guidance and ensure that the strategy aligns with FIFA’s global vision and development objectives for the women’s game.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Prince Kai Saquee welcomed participants and the FIFA representative on behalf of SLFA President Babadi Kamara and the Association’s Executive Committee. He reaffirmed the SLFA’s commitment to promoting and strengthening women’s football at all levels, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder participation in shaping the future of the sport.
Also addressing the gathering, Mohamed Alpha Kanu Conteh, Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, commended the initiative and reiterated the Government of Sierra Leone’s support for the continued growth and development of women’s football nationwide.
Presenting an overview of the consultation process, Elizabeth Alberta Kailey described the exercise as a historic milestone for women’s football in Sierra Leone. She noted that the consultations would provide stakeholders with an opportunity to identify challenges, propose practical solutions, and contribute to the development of a strategic roadmap that will guide the future growth of the women’s game.
According to the SLFA, the regional consultations represent another significant step towards creating an inclusive, sustainable, and progressive football environment where women and girls can thrive, develop their talents, and achieve their full potential in the sport.
The consultative engagement is expected to culminate in the formulation of a national women’s football strategy that will serve as a blueprint for the advancement of the women’s game in Sierra Leone in the years ahead.
