The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) recently convened its 14th National Delegates Conference, a pivotal two-day event held from July 29th to 30th, 2025, at the Freetown International Conference Centre.
The conference’s central aim was to elect a new national executive and strategically prepare for the 2028 General Elections, with a strong emphasis on unity, discipline, and a clear vision for the party's future.
President Dr. Julius Maada Bio delivered a compelling address, characterizing the occasion as a moment of "pride, purpose, and responsibility" as delegates from across the nation gathered.
He underscored the critical importance of integrity, unity, and vision in fulfilling the responsibility of electing new national executive members.
President Bio also extended his profound appreciation to the outgoing national executive, led by Dr. Prince Alex Harding, for their dedicated stewardship and electoral successes in both the 2018 and 2023 general elections.
He emphasized that the party’s greatest strength lies in its unity and collective purpose, urging members to build upon the legacy of their predecessors.
President Bio advocated for a mature and respectful political culture, both within the SLPP and in the broader political landscape, stressing that leadership demands character over chaos and vision over vitriol. He connected the present gathering to the party's rich history, referencing iconic figures like Sir Milton Margai and Madam Ella Koblo Gulama, and reaffirmed the SLPP’s foundational commitment to justice, development, and people-centered governance.
The conference also featured heartfelt remarks from outgoing National Chairman Dr. Prince Alex Harding, who encouraged continued unity and focus on shared goals.
A notable moment of cross-party solidarity occurred when Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh, Acting Chairman of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), offered goodwill and lauded the SLPP's commitment to internal democracy, acknowledging that their leadership choices strengthen the national democracy.
Ibrahim Sorie Sesay, Secretary-General of the All Political Parties Association (APPA), further commended President Bio's leadership and policy achievements.
Outgoing SLPP Secretary-General Umaru Napoleon Koroma highlighted the successes of his tenure, including electoral victories, party expansion, and improved infrastructure.
As the conference concluded on July 30th, expectations were high for the newly elected executive to define the SLPP’s strategic direction, setting the stage for the 2028 polls and carrying forward the party's enduring legacy with purpose and pride.
