Sports Minister Demands Transparency and Accountability in SLFA Operations

The Minister of Sports has emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in football administration, citing concerns over financial irregularities and poor coordination between the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) and the Ministry of Finance.

She made the remarks during a meeting with the Transition Committee and senior officials of the Ministry to address ongoing challenges affecting the country’s football governance.

During the discussion, the Director of Sports, Mr. Korji, drew attention to the strained relationship between the Ministry and the SLFA, noting a persistent lack of communication and failure to submit match reports after national team engagements.

In her response, the Minister underscored that financial discipline and effective reporting are essential to restoring public confidence in the management of the game. She expressed concern over unpaid match expenses, the mismanagement of youth football activities, and the absence of timely financial and technical reports from the SLFA.

The Minister further reminded all sporting bodies that transparency and responsible use of public funds are not optional but mandatory principles of good governance. She urged the SLFA and other associations to strengthen coordination with the Ministry of Finance and ensure regular updates on financial matters.

She reaffirmed her Ministry’s commitment to working with all stakeholders to promote accountability, improve coordination, and build a more credible and sustainable football system in Sierra Leone.
