Minnesota United FC has officially secured the permanent transfer of Sierra Leonean attacking midfielder Momoh Kamara from Mattia Football Club, following his highly successful loan period during the 2024-2025 season.
By exercising the purchase option embedded in the initial loan agreement, the transfer signifies the club's long-term commitment to the promising international talent, who has rapidly gained recognition as one of Africa's most exciting young prospects.
The initial loan deal, finalized earlier this year, involved a significant payment from the MLS club to Mattia FC to secure the player's temporary services and the essential right to make the transfer permanent in December. Although the precise fee remains confidential, the decision to execute the purchase option underscores the substantial value Minnesota United's development structure assigns to the midfielder.
“Momoh is an exciting young player with a natural aptitude for the game and a proven ability to generate scoring opportunities against opponents,” a club representative stated upon his initial arrival. His subsequent performance during the loan spell with MNUFC2 in MLS NEXT Pro, culminating in four goals and two assists across 14 appearances, firmly validated this assessment and led to a straightforward decision for the club’s leadership regarding the permanent acquisition.
Momoh Kamara's professional trajectory has been one of swift progress. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder, who was born in Kambia Town and developed in Freetown's East End, started his foundational career at Mattia FC.
His most significant international recognition occurred in 2025, where his dynamic displays earned him the Top Scorer award and a position on the XI All-Star Team at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). His exceptional form at the youth level also resulted in a call-up to the Sierra Leone senior national team (Leone Stars), with whom he has already participated in World Cup Qualifiers.
This permanent transfer represents a pivotal career milestone for Kamara, strategically positioning him to compete for first-team minutes with the senior Minnesota United squad in the forthcoming season. For the Sierra Leonean football community, the transfer is a significant source of national pride, observing another "Leone Star" successfully establish a substantial presence in a major international league, thereby paving the way for the nation’s next generation of talented footballers.
