Statistics Sierra Leone Inspects 2026 Census Equipment

Statistics Sierra Leone has engaged key stakeholders from across society to inspect the digital equipment, including tablets and power banks, that will be deployed for the upcoming 2026 National Population Census.
The inspection tour, held at the institution’s headquarters at Tower Hill in Freetown, brought together representatives from major political parties—including the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), All People’s Congress (APC), and People’s Power Party (PPP)—alongside officials from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), civil society organizations, and international partner institutions.
During the interactive exercise, stakeholders physically examined the devices, unboxed accessories, and raised key operational questions. Officials from Statistics Sierra Leone demonstrated the hardware and provided technical clarifications to reassure partners ahead of the nationwide count.
More than 29,000 tablets have been procured to enable digital data collection across the country. According to officials, the devices underwent preliminary testing during recent cartographic mapping exercises to evaluate battery durability, field performance, and geographic positioning capabilities.
To ensure field readiness, the agency also outlined a comprehensive, multi-stage training framework for enumerators. The program incorporates self-paced digital modules, supervised virtual classroom sessions, and practical in-person fieldwork instruction.
Statistics Sierra Leone emphasized that transparent stakeholder engagement, robust community mobilization, and public awareness remain critical to ensuring widespread cooperation during the digital enumeration process.
