Stolen Council Funds Recovered - ACC Hands Over NLe 1 Million to Freetown City Council

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has handed over a cheque worth 1 million new Leones (NLe 1,000,000) to the Freetown City Council through its Chief Administrator, Rahman Tom Farmar.

The payment represents the second installment of a total sum of 3 billion old Leones (equivalent to NLe 3 million) that was stolen from the council by some staff members in collusion with a commercial bank.

According to the ACC, the stolen funds have been fully recovered through its investigations, and this latest handover marks significant progress in returning the money to the Council.

In addition to the financial recovery, the ACC has taken administrative actions against those implicated in the fraudulent activities.

This development underscores the Commission’s commitment to fighting corruption and protecting public resources. The recovery not only restores part of the council’s finances but also strengthens public confidence in the ACC’s efforts to promote transparency and accountability in public institutions.

The Commission reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the complete recovery of the remaining funds and bringing all responsible parties to justice.
