Mohamed Rahman Swaray has assumed duties as Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation following a formal handover ceremony on Monday at Tower Hill.

Swaray succeeds Timothy Musa Kabba, pledging to consolidate recent diplomatic achievements rather than rebuild from scratch.

Expressing gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio for the appointment, Swaray emphasized that his priority is maintaining momentum on the global stage.

He cited key milestones under Kabba’s tenure, including Sierra Leone’s return to the United Nations Security Council after over 50 years, its rotational presidency within the Council, and its upcoming 2025–2026 chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

“My task is not to start afresh, but to consolidate these achievements, deepen our partnerships, and take our diplomacy to the next level,”

Swaray stated, underscoring that foreign policy must yield tangible economic, security, and trade benefits for Sierra Leoneans.

Outgoing Minister Kabba expressed full confidence in Swaray, highlighting expanded foreign missions in France, Algeria, Ireland, and Qatar.

Ministry Director General Alan Logan welcomed Swaray, offering full administrative backing as the new minister assumes leadership.
