During the second appearance before the court, the prosecution requested a brief adjournment for two businessmen facing charges related to the larceny of medical equipment valued at US$37,100.

The defendants, Abdul Jabba Mansaray and Joseph Bellon, are jointly charged with five counts, including conspiracy, larceny, obtaining money by false pretenses, and receiving stolen goods, all falling under the Larceny Act of 1916.

Prosecuting Counsel Y.I. Sesay informed the court that he had recently received instructions to assume responsibility for the case and required additional time to thoroughly review the evidence and consult with relevant witnesses, thereby ensuring proper legal preparation.

The charges specify that on January 13, 2026, at No. 3 Bathurst Street, Freetown, Mr. Mansaray allegedly conspired to commit larceny and subsequently stole a Vivid IQ Echo Machine, valued at US$37,100, which is the property of Professor Dr. James Russell. Mr. Mansaray is further accused of fraudulently obtaining Le2,500 and Le1,015 from individuals under the false pretense that the funds were for the transportation of the stolen equipment.

The fifth count alleges that Mr. Bellon received the stolen Vivid IQ Echo Machine between January 13 and January 28, 2026, at Kossoh Town, knowing it to be stolen property belonging to Professor Russell.

As the matter is currently a preliminary investigation, no formal plea was entered by either defendant.

Defence Counsel A.B. Sesay, representing Mr. Mansaray, renewed his application for bail, arguing that the proceedings had not advanced and that his client was prepared to stand trial supported by reliable sureties. Counsel for the second defendant also submitted an application for bail.

Magistrate John Manso Fornah denied the bail applications, citing the serious nature of the alleged offenses. Both defendants were consequently ordered to be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre. The case has been adjourned until May 4, 2026, for further proceedings.
