Two local businesswomen have been remanded to the Female Correctional Facility following their appearance at the Pademba Road Court No. 1, where they face charges related to an alleged multi-leone fraud scheme.

Zanib Nadawa Kamara and Hawa Kamara appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah, facing charges of conspiracy and obtaining goods by false pretenses, in violation of Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The prosecution alleges the pair orchestrated a scam involving the procurement of diapers under false assurances of payment.

According to court particulars, the incident took place on January 24, 2026, at #131 Peninsular Road in Goderich. The defendants allegedly obtained a quantity of merchandise from complainant Hassan Roque Junior Sesay—including 150 pull-up diapers valued at 640 Leones each—totalling approximately 251,000 Leones. Prosecutors claim the defendants falsely represented that the full balance would be settled within two weeks.

During the proceedings, no plea was entered, as the case is currently in the committal stage. Prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, Esq., confirmed that the defense counsel has been served with relevant witness statements.

M.M. Tejan, Esq., representing the defendants, stated that his clients are exploring settlement options and have engaged the complainant in negotiations. However, citing the severity of the charges, Magistrate Jah denied bail and ordered the defendants held in custody. The matter has been adjourned until June 22, 2026, for further hearings.
