Two young men charged with the theft of vehicle number plates appeared in a Freetown court yesterday, where they were remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.

The defendants, Abdul Aziz Kargbo and Hassan Mansaray, made their initial appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown. They face two charges: conspiracy to commit a crime, contrary to law, and larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The charges detail that on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Aberdeen Police Station in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused allegedly conspired with unidentified individuals to commit a crime.

The second charge specifies that on the same date and location, the accused allegedly stole six vehicle number plates, including APQ 821, APW 807, and ANP 187, valued at a total of 30,380 Leones, the property of the local unit commander of the Aberdeen division.

Upon hearing the charges, the accused entered pleas of not guilty.

Prosecutor Detective Police Constable Thoronka K.K. requested a brief adjournment due to the absence of a key witness.

In the meantime, Magistrate Fornah denied bail and ordered the accused to remain in the male correctional facility in Freetown.

The case has been adjourned to July 24, 2025.
