United States Embassy staff in Freetown have accused the National Insurance Company (NIC) of breaching its contractual obligations, citing a failure to refund savings and insurance contributions.
Staff members report that under their agreement, all outstanding funds were due by December 2025; however, despite multiple meetings with NIC leadership, they contend that no progress has been made toward a full resolution.
NIC Managing Director Jabez B. Rogers-Wright Jr. has reportedly disputed the alleged December 2025 deadline, though he acknowledged that the state-owned insurer is experiencing severe financial difficulties causing institutional delays.
According to SKB’s Source, to date, Nle 648,000(648M old Leones) of the total Nle 18 Million(18Billion Old Leones) debt has been disbursed.
The NIC maintains that while it intends to settle the full balance, the magnitude of the total sum requested has created significant liquidity challenges, and the corporation aims to address the outstanding debt through further installments.
