UK High Commissioner Praises Judicial Reforms Under CJ Kamanda
British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Josephine Gauld, has commended the ongoing judicial reforms spearheaded by Chief Justice Komba Kamanda during a courtesy visit to his chambers on September 15, 2026.
The high-level engagement focused on the Judiciary’s strategic priorities for the 2026/2027 Judicial Year, emphasizing sustained bilateral cooperation between Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom to strengthen rule of law, institutional integrity, and access to justice across the country.
High Commissioner Gauld congratulated Chief Justice Kamanda on the commencement of the new judicial term and reaffirmed the UK’s continued commitment to supporting technical and operational improvements within Sierra Leone's legal sector.
Key discussions centered on deepening support for initiatives such as the UK-Sierra Leone Pro Bono Network, alongside broader joint efforts to enhance legal capacity and streamline judicial administration.
Gauld also expressed her gratitude for the invitation to the Judicial Thanksgiving Service at Saint George’s Cathedral in Freetown, which officially marked the opening of the 2026/2027 legal year.
In response, Chief Justice Kamanda expressed appreciation for the UK’s steadfast partnership and attendance at the service, highlighting the necessity of international cooperation in driving structural progress.
