US-Based Stars Return Home to Inspire Young Footballers

Two US-based football stars, Bilal and Malik, have returned home to Sierra Leone this week to inspire and mentor aspiring young footballers, joining forces with national football icon Rodney Strasser under the Rodney Strasser Foundation.

The visit, held at a local venue in Freetown, formed part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between grassroots talent and professional football opportunities. The players spent the day engaging directly with youth participants, sharing experiences, and providing guidance on how to succeed in football both locally and internationally.

Bilal and Malik, who have been making waves in the United States football circuit, took time out of their busy schedules to return home and give back to the next generation. Their presence served as a powerful reminder that with discipline, hard work, and the right mindset, young Sierra Leoneans can achieve success in football on a global stage.

During the session, Strasser, Bilal, and Malik spoke candidly about key aspects of pursuing a professional football career, including:

  • The Professional Journey: Moving from local pitches to international stadiums.

  • Education and Sport: Balancing academics with athletic training.

  • Mental Resilience: Overcoming challenges and staying focused amidst setbacks.

“Talent is just the starting point,” Strasser told the gathering. “To reach the levels these brothers have reached in the US, or to play in top international clubs as I did, requires a heart for the game and a mind for the work.”

The engagement also included the distribution of football gear and other essentials to the young players, giving them tangible support alongside motivation. The event created a lively and inspiring atmosphere, as boys and girls looked up to the players not only as football stars but also as role models.

Under Strasser’s leadership, the Rodney Strasser Foundation continues to be a cornerstone of youth development in Sierra Leone. By involving internationally active players like Bilal and Malik, the Foundation is expanding mentorship opportunities, providing modern insights into global football, and helping young talent navigate the path to professional success.
