The United Team of Sierra Leone (UTEAM-SL), through its INSPIRE Programme, has continued its school outreach activities in Pujehun District, engaging pupils and staff of Wanjama Government Secondary School for Girls on youth leadership, gender equality and peacebuilding.

According to Mohamed Kallon, Head of the UTEAM-SL Secretariat, the programme is implemented by UTEAM-SL with funding support from the Agency for Integrated Development Sierra Leone (AID-SL) and co-funding from the European Union in Sierra Leone.

He explained that the initiative seeks to strengthen school-based peace dialogues under the theme "Youth Em Kol At Tok", while promoting responsible information sharing, tolerance, leadership and community-driven peacebuilding.

During the engagement at Wanjama Government Secondary School for Girls, pupils and educators participated in discussions on youth leadership, responsible information ecosystems, gender equality and the role of young people in building peaceful communities.

Kallon said each Peace Club established under the programme would serve as a safe space for pupils to develop dialogue, mediation, responsible information-sharing and leadership skills. Members will also be trained to resolve disputes among their peers, organise peace activities and promote positive behaviour in schools, homes and their communities.

He emphasised that empowering young people to communicate, listen and participate in peacebuilding is essential to fostering national cohesion and sustainable peace.

Meanwhile, Michaela Hawa Jah, Speaker of the Girls' Parliament in Pujehun District, highlighted the programme's commitment to inspiring young people through education and awareness, nurturing positive values and civic responsibility, strengthening community action, promoting youth participation and empowerment, encouraging innovation, rebuilding communities and supporting sustainable development.
