Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has officially launched nationwide regional consultations on local governance and decentralisation, beginning with high-level engagements in Kenema District.

The initiative aims to strengthen local institutions, improve service delivery, and shape government policies that directly address community realities across the country. As part of the preparations, Dr. Juldeh Jalloh, in his capacity as Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Decentralization, hosted an interactive dinner and listening session with local Paramount Chiefs on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The engagement provided an informal platform for traditional leaders to voice localized challenges and share insights into chiefdom administration.

Addressing stakeholders at the main consultation in Kenema, the Vice President emphasized that the process centers on open dialogue rather than political gathering. "We are here to listen to your concerns and questions," Dr. Juldeh Jalloh stated, noting that firsthand perspectives gathered from traditional authorities and community actors will guide government strategies, Cabinet deliberations, and potential legislative reforms.

A key highlight of the event was the inauguration of the Regional Coordination Committee, designed to enhance structural collaboration among local governance bodies. Key officials present stressed the importance of institutional capacity building; Alfred Moi Jamiru, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, called for stronger local councils to ensure effective service delivery, while Dr. Falla D. Lamin, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, underscored the necessity of robust coordination systems.

Local stakeholders welcomed the direct engagement, commending the administration's approach of meeting communities directly to discuss systemic challenges.

Following the opening session in Kenema, the regional consultation series will proceed to the Northern and Northeastern regions, building upon preliminary discussions previously held in Freetown to advance nationwide decentralisation reforms.
