WAMOU Urges Lift on Western Area Football Ban, Pledges Enhanced Safety Measures
The Western Area Mini-League Organizers’ Union (WAMOU) is formally appealing to sports authorities to review the blanket suspension on all community and school football competitions across the Western Area, pledging robust internal reforms to curb fan violence.
The appeal follows an official statement released by WAMOU on September 18, 2026, in response to the joint directive by the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA) halting all local football activities.
While confirming full compliance with the current suspension, WAMOU expressed deep regret over the recent outbreak of youth violence linked to matches. The Union extended its condolences to the family of the victim who lost their life, as well as sympathy to citizens who suffered injuries and property destruction.
Reiterating its stance against hooliganism, WAMOU firmly aligned with the Ministry and NSA in condemning all violent acts, emphasizing that grass-roots football must remain a platform for youth development, community cohesion, and peace rather than a security threat.
To facilitate a conditional lifting of the ban, WAMOU outlined several key commitments:

Security Collaboration: Partnering closely with law enforcement agencies to guarantee spectator and public safety during matches.
Regulatory Oversight: Working with the newly established Technical Committee to formulate and enforce strict monitoring guidelines across all mini-leagues.
Strict Compliance: Requiring all local league organizers to strictly adhere to official government security regulations or face immediate sanctions.
The Union expressed confidence that these preventative measures will restore order and lead to an amicable resolution with sports authorities, paving the way for the safe return of community football.
