Welder Awaits Sentencing After Pleading Guilty to Stealing Six Sheep Worth Le48,000

Ibrahim Conteh, a 22-year-old welder, has pleaded guilty to stealing six sheep valued at Le48,000 and is now awaiting sentencing, scheduled for November 11, 2025.
Conteh appeared before Magistrate Adama Kandeh at Pademba Road Court No. 4 in Freetown on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. He faces one count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Mongage Bathurst Village, Gloucester Saddle, Freetown, in the Western Area, the accused allegedly stole six ram sheep, each valued at Le8,000, totaling Le48,000 the property of Sahr Pessima.
When the charge was read and explained, Conteh pleaded guilty.
Prosecutor Inspector A.T. Bangura called the second prosecution witness, Police Constable Bismerall Brewah (Badge No. 13820), attached to the Criminal Investigation Department at Hilltop Police Station.
Brewah testified that on October 5, 2025, the complainant reported that the defendant had stolen six sheep. He said he obtained statements from both the complainant and the accused. The statement from the accused was taken in Krio, recorded in English, and read back to him in Krio. The defendant confirmed its accuracy by affixing his right thumbprint, witnessed by Inspector Dumbuya. The document was marked as Exhibit A1–4.
Brewah further stated that on October 6, 2025, he and other officers executed a search warrant at Kissy Old Road, where the defendant claimed the sheep were kept, but none were found. A second statement from the accused was also obtained and marked as Exhibit B1–3.
At the time of the proceedings, Conteh was not legally represented. Magistrate Kandeh ordered that he be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to November 11, 2025, for ruling.
