Wusum Stars Surge to Fourth with Gritty Win Over East End Lions

Wusum Stars delivered a statement performance in the Leone Rock Premier League this past weekend, securing a crucial 2–1 victory over historic rivals East End Lions.

The win marks a return to form for the Makeni-based side, propelling them into fourth place on the league table with 17 points, level with third-place Ports Authority after 11 matches.

Playing in front of a passionate home crowd, Wusum Stars showcased tactical discipline and clinical finishing, hallmarks of their season.

  • The Breakthrough: Wusum Stars took control early when Suliaman Kamara scored the opening goal, setting the tone for the match.

  • The Cushion: Momentum stayed with the hosts as Ibrahim Kargbo doubled the lead, providing a crucial buffer against a late resurgence from the Lions.

  • The Resistance: East End Lions pulled one back late in the game, but Wusum’s defense held firm under intense pressure to secure all three points.

While celebrations abound in Makeni, the result deepens the crisis for East End Lions, who currently sit 15th with 11 points, dangerously close to the relegation zone.

“This wasn’t just about three points; it was about character,” said a local analyst. “Beating a team like East End Lions, regardless of their current form, requires a specific mentality, and Wusum Stars showed they have it in abundance.”

Wusum Stars will aim to maintain their upward trajectory as they prepare to face Bhantal FC in Match Week 12 on January 24th. If they replicate this level of intensity, the Northern Stars could break into the top three by the end of the month.
