2026 BECE Rescheduled Amid Logistical Arrangements

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been rescheduled and will now begin on Monday, 6 July 2026.

The announcement was made in a press release issued by the Ministry on 23 June 2026, providing clarity to thousands of candidates, parents, and teachers awaiting the official examination timetable.

According to the Ministry, the adjustment follows careful consideration of logistical and administrative requirements aimed at ensuring a smooth, fair, and well-coordinated nationwide examination process.

“The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), wishes to inform parents, guardians, candidates, and the general public that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will now commence on Monday, 6 July,” the statement said.

The Ministry acknowledged concerns over the previous uncertainty surrounding the examination schedule and assured stakeholders that measures are in place to ensure the successful conduct of the exams without disruption.

MBSSE further reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible examination process, emphasizing that the welfare of pupils and the integrity of the system remain top priorities.

It also stated that additional details, including the full BECE timetable, will be released through official channels in the coming days.

Parents, guardians, teachers, and candidates have been urged to continue their preparations and rely only on official announcements regarding the examination.
