The People’s Republic of China has demonstrated its continued support for the Sierra Leonean educational sector through a financial contribution toward the development of the School of Postgraduate Studies at Eastern Technical University (ETU-SL).

Facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation under the leadership of Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, a donation totaling NLe 1,300,000 was officially transferred to university administration this week.

During the formal handover on Thursday 18th 2026, ETU-SL Registrar Mr. John Juana acknowledged the contribution as a critical intervention. He emphasized that these funds will directly facilitate the expansion of the university’s capacity for advanced academic training.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Sao Babawo noted that the investment serves as a cornerstone for both institutional growth and broader national development, providing the necessary infrastructure to produce high-level technical expertise.

In preparation for this expansion, the university administration has secured over one hundred acres of land in Panderu, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema District, dedicated to the development of academic facilities.

This international partnership reinforces the Government of Sierra Leone’s flagship education initiatives, led by President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, which prioritizes enhanced access to tertiary and technical vocational training.

The university has confirmed that the construction of the School of Postgraduate Studies will now be expedited to ensure the facility becomes operational for the student body in the immediate term.
