24-Athlete Depart for 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone (CGA-SLE), in coordination with the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA), has finalized the country’s roster for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which are set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sierra Leone will be represented by 24 athletes competing across five disciplines: athletics, boxing, swimming, judo, and track cycling. The team size was expanded from an initial 19 athletes following successful supplementary allocations; however, artistic gymnastics was withdrawn from the program due to eligibility requirements.

The delegation is composed of a robust mix of athletes, coaches, technical officials, and administrative staff, all supported by the Government of Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Sports, and the national sports bodies.

During the formal unveiling ceremony, sports leadership presented the official Commonwealth Games Baton to the Ministry of Sports, a symbolic act marking the nation’s entry into the competition. In their address, officials underscored the weight of the moment, urging the team to represent Sierra Leone with discipline, patriotism, unity, and fair play.

The first contingent of the delegation is scheduled to depart for Glasgow on July 20th and 21st, ahead of the Games' opening ceremony on July 23, 2026.
