27-Year-Old Woman Remanded Following Guilty Plea in Drug Case

Justice Adrian Fisher of the High Court in Freetown has remanded 27-year-old Hellen Kuyateh to the female correctional facility after she pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful drug possession and dealing.

The case stems from an incident on June 11, 2026, when law enforcement officers intercepted Kuyateh along Regent Road in the Western Area of Freetown. Upon search, authorities found her in possession of 82 wraps of Kush—a synthetic cannabinoid—weighing approximately 90.9 grams, which she was distributing without lawful authority.

Appearing before the High Court, Kuyateh formally admitted guilt to a two-count indictment detailing unlawful possession and dealing in prohibited substances. The offenses constitute violations of Sections 8(a) and 7(c) of the National Drugs Control Act of 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008).

Following the guilty plea, Justice Fisher ordered that the defendant remain in custody at the female correctional facility pending sentencing. Proceedings have been adjourned to October 16, 2026, for further court action.

The ruling underscores intensified efforts by judicial and law enforcement authorities in Sierra Leone to curb the proliferation of synthetic drugs, as judicial officers continue to strictly enforce national drug control legislation.
