54-year-old Ports Authority Employee Remanded for Alleged Conspiracy and Bodily Harm

The Freetown Magistrate's Court has ordered the remand of Amara Salia, a 54-year-old employee of the National Ports Authority of Sierra Leone (NPAA), on allegations of conspiracy and inflicting grievous bodily harm. These charges arise from an incident involving a man at a Lumley car wash in March of this year.

Salia, also known as Pelitp, appeared before Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh at Pademba Road Court No. 5 in Freetown. He is facing four charges: conspiracy, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, all in violation of Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861.

The particulars of the offence indicate that on Friday, March 28th, at a car wash in Kamayama, Lumley, Western Area, Freetown, the accused allegedly conspired with unidentified individuals to commit the crime of causing grievous bodily harm. On the same date and at the same location, Salia is accused of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm on Abubakarr Turay. Additionally, the accused is alleged to have maliciously wounded Turay, with Count four accusing him of assaulting Turay, resulting in actual bodily harm.

No plea was entered when the charges were read and explained to the accused, as he was present in court for a preliminary investigation. Prosecutor Sergeant Santigie Koroma (5598) requested a brief adjournment to call his next witness.

Magistrate Gbloh denied bail and ordered the remand of Amara Salia to the male correctional facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to July 8, 2025.
