Accord Logistics CEO Reprimanded by Parliament for Disrespecting Committee

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has issued a stern warning to Johny Kouza, Chief Executive Officer of Accord Logistics, over conduct described as contemptuous toward the House and its Committee on Trade and Industry.

Kouza appeared at the well of Parliament, where Speaker Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas reprimanded him for failing to respect the authority of the committee. The Speaker warned that ignoring parliamentary summons constitutes contempt and could lead to sanctions, including detention.

“This is the first and last time we will accept such behaviour from you,” the Speaker said, adding that any future acts of contempt could result in imprisonment. He reminded Kouza that committees act on behalf of the entire House and must be treated accordingly.

The issue arose after Chairperson of the Committee on Trade and Industry, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay, accused Kouza of showing disrespect during proceedings.

Opposition Leader Hon. Abdul Kargbo welcomed the Speaker’s action, calling it necessary to uphold parliamentary authority. He urged similar measures for officials of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) who fail to honour committee summons.

Kouza’s appearance underscores Parliament’s powers to enforce accountability and ensure respect for its oversight role, particularly in dealings with private sector entities.
