In a legal development, Magistrate John Manso Fornah has committed Abu Bakarr Bangura, an alleged drug dealer, to the High Court for trial after a preliminary hearing uncovered substantial evidence against him.
Bangura made his final appearance before Magistrate Fornah at Pademba Road Court No.2 on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, facing five serious drug-related charges.
These include collecting, selling, and possessing a prohibited drug without lawful authority, all in violation of sections 7 and 8 of the National Drug Control Act, 2008.
During the proceedings, the charges were formally read and explained to Bangura. However, he did not enter a plea as the matter was a preliminary investigation.
The prosecution, led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, closed their case after presenting their witnesses, requesting a ruling from the court.
Represented by lawyer A. Kamara, Bangura listened as Magistrate Fornah meticulously reviewed the presented evidence.
The magistrate determined that a prima facie case existed against Bangura, noting the indictable nature of the offenses and the prosecution's strong presentation.
Crucially, the court also observed that the accused had admitted to a caution statement given to the police.
Consequently, Magistrate Fornah ordered Bangura to be committed to the High Court to face the charges.
The case will now proceed to a higher court for a full trial, and Bangura remains in custody.
