African Union Condemns U.S. Travel Restrictions and Calls for Reversal

ree

The African Union Commission strongly condemns the recent travel restrictions imposed by the United States Government, which target nationals from several countries, including those on the African continent.

While acknowledging the principle of territorial integrity, the Union views the United States' actions as disproportionate, lacking an evidence-based justification, and dismissive of the long-standing partnership between the United States and Africa.

These travel restrictions, whether partial or total, are considered to have significantly negative effects on the well-established ties and deeply rooted diplomatic relations that have been developed over many years.

The African Union Commission expresses serious concern about the adverse consequences of these measures and urgently calls on the U.S. Administration to promptly reconsider and rescind this decision.

The Commission advocates for the immediate lifting of all travel bans, whether comprehensive or limited, and demands that the U.S. engage in meaningful, transparent dialogue with the affected nations to address any alleged concerns. Furthermore, the Commission reaffirms its solidarity with its Member States and is prepared to take all necessary actions to protect the interests and dignity of African

citizens.
