Aggrieved Officer, Dick, Promoted After Submitting Resignation Letter

Police Constable Lucinda N. Dick has reportedly been promoted to the rank of Sub-Inspector following public attention over her resignation letter, in which she raised concerns about serving nearly 23 years without a promotion.

In the letter dated 8 October 2026, Dick stated that she joined the Sierra Leone Police on 13 December 2003 and had remained in a single rank despite decades of service, prompting her request to resign effective 15 October.

Although her lack of promotion featured prominently, she also cited other personal and workplace concerns.

The letter attracted widespread attention on social media, prompting calls from various sectors—including Presidential Aide Tommy Massaquoi—for the police to review her service record and address her concerns.

However, the Sierra Leone Police questioned the authenticity of the circulating letter. The force’s Head of Media, ASP Mohamed Bobson Senu, stated that the personal identification number in the document did not match police records.

He also explained that promotions within the force depend on an officer’s conduct, performance, and recommendations from their supervisors.

Dick’s reported promotion marks a new development in a case that has sparked public discussion about career progression and promotion procedures within the Sierra Leone Police.

However, official confirmation of the promotion by the police has yet to be established(except by our sources whose identity we are keeping private), and it remains unclear whether the reported decision was connected to the public attention surrounding her resignation letter.
