Officer Resigns After 23 Years Without Promotion

Police Constable Lucinda N. Dick has submitted her resignation from the Sierra Leone Police after nearly 23 years in service without receiving a single promotion.
In a formal letter dated October 8, 2026, addressed to the Human Resources Department at Police Headquarters on George Street, Freetown, Constable Dick stated she has remained at the entry rank of constable since enlisting on December 13, 2003.
Citing total lack of career advancement, ongoing provocation from colleagues, and pressing family commitments as key factors behind her decision, Dick requested that her resignation take effect on October 15, 2026, while acknowledging the standard 30-day notice requirement under force regulations.
“Despite the challenges, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my country,” Dick wrote in her letter, noting that her decades with the force instilled in her deep values of discipline, professionalism, and public service.
She requested police leadership to expedite the processing of her discharge documentation and outstanding benefits, confirming her readiness to return all police-issued property currently in her possession.
Copies of the resignation notice were sent to key senior officials, including the Assistant Inspector General of Police for the Eastern Region, the OSD Coordinator East, and leadership across the Daru Division.
As of publication, the Sierra Leone Police administration has not publicly confirmed whether the resignation has been formally accepted or if any response will be issued regarding her grievances.
