The Auradicals Club of Fourah Bay College (FBC) has expressed significant concern regarding purported law enforcement bias and procedural misconduct following recent campus disturbances. The organization is formally requesting an independent investigation into the conduct of security personnel.
In an official communique issued on May 4, 2026, the student body denounced what it characterized as a "gross abuse of authority." The group emphasized that these occurrences threaten to compromise public confidence, the rule of law, and the stability of the academic community.
The organization further critiqued the current suspension of student activities, labeling the measure as arbitrary and in conflict with the principles of equity and due process. The statement asserted that such interventions erode the essential trust between the university administration and the student population.
Auradicals additionally alleged that multiple students were detained without legal justification despite having no involvement in the incidents under review, contributing to a pervasive atmosphere of apprehension on campus.
The statement specifically addressed the conduct of personnel at the Akon Police Station, highlighting allegations that certain individuals were protected while others, identified as victims, were taken into custody. Furthermore, it referenced reports and digital evidence indicating the application of disproportionate force during campus operations.
"Testimonies suggest a disparity in treatment where specific suspects were shielded while victims faced arrest," the group noted, suggesting that such findings would materially impact the credibility of law enforcement agencies.
Of particular concern were reports involving an armed officer discharging live ammunition in the vicinity of female residential facilities, which the group described as a critical threat to student safety and a potential dereliction of duty.
Consequently, the Auradicals Club advocates for an immediate, transparent, and autonomous inquiry into these events and the conduct of the involved officers. They also demand the release of students purportedly held without probable cause.
The organization urged the relevant authorities to re-establish regular campus operations and ensure the continuity of academic pursuits. Additionally, they called for adherence to transparency and fairness in the forthcoming student electoral processes.
The club also formally appealed to the Sierra Leone Police to maintain professional impartiality and remain free from external pressures while fulfilling their mandates.
While expressing these grievances, the Auradicals Club encouraged students and stakeholders to maintain composure and prioritize constructive dialogue, noting that unity and legal due process are vital for long-term campus harmony.
The communique concluded by reiterating the necessity for accountability and the rigorous protection of student rights as the situation at Fourah Bay College remains under scrutiny.
