APC Aspirants Plea For Immediate Release of Detained Lawyer

A coalition of flagbearer aspirants from the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has issued a joint statement demanding the immediate release of prominent lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara following his detention by order of Chief Justice Komba Kamanda during Supreme Court proceedings.

The detention occurred amid ongoing hearings regarding a high-profile constitutional amendment challenge, where Kamara serves as a key member of the APC’s legal defense team.

In their statement, dated October 9, 2026, the 19 signatories expressed deep concern over the developments at the apex court. Highlighting that Kamara’s personal dignity, safety, and entitlement to fair treatment remain paramount, the group extended their full support to the attorney, his family, and legal colleagues.

While emphasizing their continued respect for judicial independence, the political leaders urged court officials and the public to exercise maximum restraint. Securing Kamara’s release, they stated, is critical to restoring public trust in the judiciary and preserving national stability during the sensitive constitutional review process.

“Let purpose, responsibility, and respect guide our response, and let the integrity of our democratic institutions remain our shared priority,”

the statement read, calling on party loyalists and citizens to remain calm and refrain from rhetoric that could inflame political tensions.

The joint declaration was signed by prominent party figures, including Ady Macauley, Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah, Mohamed Omodu Kamara, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, Dr. Kaifalla Marah, Dr. Victor Davies, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, and former Vice President Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana.
