The All People’s Congress (APC) has announced an emergency meeting of its senior officials to deliberate on recent developments surrounding the proposed appointment of Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).
In a public notice issued by the party’s National Secretary-General, Lansana Dumbuya, all Members of the National Advisory Committee (NAC), Regional and District Chairmen, Members of Parliament, Mayors and Chairpersons, as well as APC Councillors nationwide, have been directed to attend. The notice stated that attendance is mandatory.
The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the APC Party Headquarters, We Yone Building, Old Railway Line, Freetown. According to the notice, the gathering will examine the implications of Mr. Alpha’s proposed appointment and provide direction on the party’s position.
Immediately after the general meeting, the NAC will convene to deliberate on and approve resolutions arising from the discussions. The committee is also expected to approve additional members of the Independent Electoral Board (IEB) to replace those who have been absent from previous meetings.
The APC described the meeting as one of “critical national and institutional importance,” underscoring the need for unity and full participation by all designated officials.
The development comes amid heightened public and political interest in the leadership of the ECSL ahead of the 2028 general elections.
