Honorable Rabbi Sirajin Munirr Rollings-Kamara, an aspirant for the position of National Deputy Chairman within the All People’s Congress (APC) party, has publicly requested the immediate suspension of the party's ongoing lower-level elections, citing significant procedural irregularities in the voting process.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Rollings-Kamara reported that the ballot slips provided to voters feature only pictorial symbols—such as a snake, dog, rat, and chicken—instead of the candidates' names or photographs. He characterized this system as fundamentally undemocratic, warning that it compromises the transparency and credibility essential for legitimate internal elections.
The aspirant noted that this opaque system was reportedly employed during the 2023 internal parliamentary aspirant elections, a process he contested and formally objected to at the time. He expressed serious concern that the continuation of such practices diminishes the APC's moral standing to scrutinize the conduct of external electoral bodies and political rivals, including the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leone People’s Party.
Rollings-Kamara urged the party leadership to immediately halt the electoral process and rectify the identified irregularities. He further indicated a readiness to submit a formal complaint to the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) should the situation not be addressed, emphasizing the necessity for the party to respect and fully implement internal democratic principles.
This development has initiated broad discussion within party circles and among political commentators, underscoring the critical importance of clear and transparent internal election protocols. Specifically, it highlights the requirement for ballots to unambiguously identify candidates to ensure the sustained confidence of party members.
