Hon. Ibrahim Kargbo, a veteran politician and former lawmaker of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), recently asserted that the APC would favor Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh as the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flagbearer, contingent upon the opposition having the prerogative to select the candidate.

In an interview with Truth Media, Kargbo characterized the Vice President as a figure capable of national unification, observing that a significant segment of the APC views him as an ally and is receptive to his leadership.

Kargbo underscored Dr. Jalloh's substantial political background, positing that his current roles within the government and the party structure, particularly during periods of national or internal political friction, have thoroughly prepared him for national leadership.

Furthermore, Kargbo noted that President Julius Maada Bio’s frequent international engagements have necessitated Dr. Jalloh assuming the acting presidency more often than many predecessors, thereby enhancing his executive credentials and providing extensive exposure to national responsibilities.

Commending Dr. Jalloh's methodology for conflict resolution, Kargbo described him as a reconciliatory and peace-oriented leader. While acknowledging the historical absence of a precedent in Sierra Leonean politics for a sitting Vice President to successfully transition into the presidency, Kargbo suggested that Dr. Jalloh is positioned to potentially overcome this historical trend.

These public declarations by the APC politician have consequently intensified political discourse regarding succession and potential flagbearers within the ruling SLPP in preparation for future electoral cycles.

Vice President Jalloh remains a central figure influencing the nation’s evolving political trajectory.
