APC Suspends Election Hearings Amid Heightened Electoral Uncertainty

The All People’s Congress (APC) Independent Election Complaints Board (IECB) has announced the immediate suspension of all its activities, including hearings regarding petitions for ward rerun elections. In a public notice dated 28 August 2026, the Board stated that the decision follows a court ruling delivered by Hon. Mr. Justice A. Fisher on 27 August 2026.

Consequently, the Ward Rerun Election Petition hearings scheduled for Saturday, 29 August 2026, have been cancelled and suspended until further notice. 

The suspension applies to all IECB operations, petitioners, and the general party membership. The Board expressed apologies to members who had already made travel arrangements to Freetown, acknowledging the significant inconvenience caused, and indicated that further communication will be issued upon receiving new directives.

This operational halt coincides with growing uncertainty surrounding the broader electoral timeline. Speaking on the matter, SLPP Publicity Secretary Moses Mambu suggested that upcoming elections might not proceed as scheduled, pointing to ongoing procedural and legal developments that could impact the overall schedule.

The convergence of internal party tribunal suspensions and public statements from key political figures highlights the intensifying scrutiny and logistical challenges facing the electoral process as stakeholders await further judicial and administrative clarity.
