Auditor-General Abdul Aziz has called on newly recruited staff of the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) to establish integrity, public interest, and high-quality standards as the cornerstones of their professional careers.

Speaking on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the opening of a two-week induction program at the Youyi Building in Freetown, Aziz delivered an inspirational charge to 35 new entrants preparing to serve in public financial management.

The inductee cohort comprises 29 newly recruited ASSL personnel—including auditors, procurement specialists, and ICT officers—alongside six interns placed through the European Union Internship Scheme.

Addressing the incoming cohort, Aziz emphasized the vital mandate of the Audit Service and the significant weight of responsibility borne by an institution entrusted with safeguarding public resources.

He reminded participants that public trust depends heavily on the independence, objectivity, and ethical character of the service's personnel.

“Integrity is the watchword of the ASSL,”

Aziz stated, encouraging the new entrants to embed ethical practice into every stage of their work to sustain public confidence.

He urged the group to keep the welfare of Sierra Leoneans at the heart of their duties, noting that the primary goal of public auditing is to advance good governance, bolster accountability, and drive meaningful improvements in public service delivery.

Quality and thoroughness were central themes of the address. Aziz challenged the inductees to approach their assignments with diligence and strict adherence to established professional standards, while actively seeking guidance and pursuing continuous development.

The two-week program is designed to provide comprehensive orientation on ASSL’s operational policies, institutional values, and legal frameworks, ensuring participants seamlessly transition into their respective divisions and contribute effectively to the agency's mission.
