The Baama Community hosted a significant stakeholder meeting on 13th December 2025, convened to discuss the proposed large-scale gold exploration project by Ming Rui Ventures – Sierra Leone Limited.
The gathering brought together community leaders, government officials, and company representatives to review and discuss the company’s Environmental, Social, and Health Impact Assessment (ESHIA) report, and to address concerns from local residents. Security for the meeting was provided by the Sierra Leone Police and Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs), ensuring a professional and orderly environment.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mohamed Gaima, Manager of the National Mineral Agency (NMA), and included representatives from various government bodies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA-SL) and the National Mineral Agency (NMA).
Paramount Chief of Wandor Chiefdom, PC Larry Sao Bojon Fangawa, welcomed attendees and stressed the importance of understanding the potential impacts of the project. He noted his commitment to ensuring environmental protection and that the local community benefits from the project. “I will continue to engage with the company to ensure that the concerns of my people are addressed,” he said.
Also speaking at the meeting, Inspector Prince Bernard Jaygboi Kamara, Officer-in-Charge of the Baama Police Post, conveyed security assurances on behalf of the Inspector General of Police. He highlighted that protecting the environment is closely linked with maintaining security and emphasized that the well-being of citizens must remain a priority, even as the nation explores its natural resources.
Representatives of Ming Rui Ventures – Sierra Leone Limited presented the ESHIA report, detailing the company’s plans for the gold exploration project. The report highlighted potential economic benefits, including job creation and government revenue generation.
The presentation was followed by a series of questions and concerns from stakeholders. Issues raised included environmental degradation, water pollution, and the impact on local livelihoods. The meeting provided a transparent platform for dialogue, allowing stakeholders to voice their opinions and suggestions.
The discussions concluded positively, with commitments from both the company and local authorities to continue engagement and address community concerns as the project progresses.
