The Officer in Command (O/C) of Baama Police Post, Inspector Prince Bernard Jaygboi Kamara, and his team conducted a crucial awareness exercise on Friday, November 7, 2025, targeting the Baama Town Bike Rider Union (BRU). The session aimed to educate the riders on the hazards of drug abuse and the necessity of adhering to road safety regulations.
During the engagement, the Officer in Command highlighted the significant role bike riders play in maintaining community peace and security. He detailed the risks associated with drug consumption, emphasizing how impaired judgment increases the probability of traffic accidents.
The motorcycle riders were cautioned that drug use leads to erratic and perilous driving behavior, thereby endangering their lives and the lives of other road users.
In addition to drug awareness, the O/C stressed the importance of safe driving practices. He urged riders to refrain from speeding and reckless driving, particularly within the town center. The O/C strictly warned against allowing underage individuals to operate motorcycles and encouraged the union members to apprehend and report both juvenile and adult defaulters to the authorities.
Mr. Kemoh Pokawa, a key stakeholder present at the initiative, noted that this exercise underscores the police authorities’ dedication to promoting responsible conduct among road users and fostering a safer environment for all residents. He appealed to the riders to act responsibly and comply with all traffic laws.
He emphatically stated that drugs can be destructive to a rider's life and called upon them to support the maintenance of law and order within the Chiefdom.
The Bike Rider Union members expressed their gratitude for the informative session and committed to promoting safe riding habits among their peers. They also pledged to actively discourage drug use within their ranks and advocate for a safer road environment in Baama Town.
In a separate development, the Baama Police Post has proudly re-hoisted the Sierra Leone national flag after a considerable hiatus. This significant act reflects the dedication and commitment of the current Officer in Command, who is ensuring that the flag flies high to uphold the national values it represents.
