Bail Denied for Duo Accused of Illicit Activities

ree

David Johnson and Jelika Conteh appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown to face seven charges related to illicit drug activities.

The charges encompass the collection, possession, transportation, dealing, and offering for sale of prohibited drugs without legal authorisation, contravening several sections of the National Drug Control Act 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008).

Court documents indicate that on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Mile 18 Police Checkpoint in Kambia District, Northern Province, the defendants allegedly collected and possessed eighty-nine compressed parcels of Cannabis sativa without lawful authority.

Additional counts assert that on the same date and at the same location, they transported, dealt in, and offered the prohibited drugs for sale.

Following the reading and explanation of the charges, the accused did not enter a plea.

State prosecutor A.N. Taylor Esq. requested a brief adjournment to consult with witnesses, while defense counsel A. Kamara submitted an application for bail on behalf of the accused.

However, Magistrate Jah denied the bail application and ordered the defendants to be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.

The case has been adjourned until June 24, 2025.
