A housemaid, Adamsay Fofanah, was denied bail and remanded to a correctional facility after appearing in court on Monday, October 20, 2025, for the fraudulent conversion of sixty thousand Leones. The money had been entrusted to her for safekeeping.
Appearing before Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura at Pademba Road Court No. 8, Fofanah faced charges of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The particulars of the offence state that on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Lumley, Freetown, Fofanah allegedly converted 60,000 Leones to her own use, money that Sallay Conteh had entrusted to her.
The defendant did not enter a plea and was unrepresented by counsel. Detective Police Constable 14898 Joseph Lamin Dumbuya served the charges in compliance with the new Criminal Procedure Act.
Citing the seriousness of the offence, Magistrate Samura refused bail and remanded Fofanah to the female correctional facility. The matter is adjourned to October 27, 2025, for continuation.
This case underscores the pressing issues of trust and accountability within domestic financial arrangements.
