The implementation of an effective ban on motorcycle movement within the central business districts has been a topic of discussion across multiple government administrations.

At the start of 2025, the Sierra Leone Police, after extensive consultation with the Bike Riders’ union and the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, announced a resolution to implement the ban, commencing on February 1st, 2025.

National Public Relations Officer Mohamed Nabieu stated that the consultations addressed recurring issues, resulting in eighteen resolutions agreed upon and signed by all parties at Sierra Palm Hotel.

The agreement specified thirty-five streets to be designated as restricted central business areas.

Additionally, a committee with six representatives from each entity will convene monthly to evaluate, reassess, and adjust strategies based on the implementation process.

Nabieu expressed support for the restricted movement initiative. However, the union has appealed to remove Fourah Bay Road and Kennedy Street from the list of thirty-five restricted streets.

This suggestion has been favorably received by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Police, and the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority.

Therefore, the ban on motorcycle movement will begin tomorrow, February 1st, with the full cooperation of the Bike Riders’ union.
