First Lady Fatima Maada Bio, representing Sierra Leone and the African continent, delivered a landmark address at the inaugural Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit, hosted by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump at the White House.

The high-level gathering convened global leaders and policymakers to discuss a more inclusive and sustainable future for children, focusing intensely on the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and educational technology (EdTech).

In her remarks, Madam. Bio issued a critical global call to action, urging international cooperation to ensure that the digital revolution serves as a tool for empowerment, not exploitation, for children. She stressed that the choices made by world leaders will define the safety and success of the next generation.

She highlighted the essential role of technology in expanding opportunities, particularly for underserved communities, stating that digital tools and AI must be deployed with strict ethical standards, coupled with safety and guidance, to prevent the deepening of existing inequalities. She underscored Sierra Leone’s commitment, noting that “education is not just a right; it is a lifeline” for bridging vulnerability and opportunity, particularly as technology is leveraged to reach children in rural areas.

She further emphasized that the role of first ladies and spouses is to be “advocates, conveners, and catalysts for change,” stressing the need to advocate for systems that educate, protect, and empower children to become safe and responsible digital citizens. Her participation showcased Sierra Leone’s leadership in international diplomacy and its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s “Human Capital”.

The summit also featured U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, who outlined priority areas for integrating AI into education, including personalized learning, the use of humanoid robots such as Figure3, and leveraging technology to drive economic growth.
