Bio Moves to Empower Chamber of Commerce for Stronger Private Sector Engagement

President Julius Maada Bio has pledged to strengthen the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, saying he wants it to become a strong and credible platform through which businesses engage with Government.

The commitment was made on Thursday, 23 July 2026, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Chamber to State House in Freetown. The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between Government and the private sector to drive economic growth, investment and sustainable development.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chamber Head Modupe Taylor-Pearce congratulated President Bio on his administration’s achievements and commended his continued engagement with the business community.

He described the Chamber as the principal platform representing businesses across sectors including agriculture, mining, manufacturing, tourism, transport, construction and services, while advocating on key issues such as trade, taxation, industrialisation, exports, investment and infrastructure.

Taylor-Pearce also reaffirmed the Chamber’s support for the upcoming West Africa Integration and Investment Summit, describing it as a key opportunity to promote regional investment and private sector participation.

In response, President Bio reiterated his Government’s commitment to strengthening the Chamber’s institutional role in national development, acknowledging concerns raised by members and assuring them that challenges facing the private sector would continue to be addressed. He described the Chamber as a vital partner in creating an enabling environment for investment, innovation and sustainable economic growth.

The engagement forms part of Government’s ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration with the private sector and advance inclusive economic transformation in Sierra Leone.
