Information Ministry Deepens Ties With Plan International on Citizen Engagement

The Ministry of Information and Civic Education has reaffirmed its partnership with Plan International Sierra Leone, with both institutions committing to strengthen collaboration in civic education, youth empowerment, public information and citizen engagement.

The renewed commitment was made on Thursday, 23 July 2026, when a high-level delegation from Plan International’s West and Central Africa (WACA) office paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Hon. Chernor A. Bah.

The delegation was led by Plan International WACA Regional Director, Alasan Senghore, and included the organisation’s Sub-Regional Director for Sahel West Africa, Evariste Sindayigaya, as well as Plan International Sierra Leone Country Director, Muniratu Issifu.

Welcoming the delegation, Minister Bah described Plan International as one of Sierra Leone’s most reliable and longstanding development partners, acknowledging the organisation’s significant contribution to the country’s progress over the years.

He noted that Plan International has remained a steadfast ally during both challenging periods and moments of national transformation, emphasizing that its consistent support has positively impacted the lives of many Sierra Leoneans.

The Minister also reflected on his personal journey, revealing that his career in advocacy began through Plan International. He credited the organisation with helping to shape his leadership values and inspiring his dedication to public service.

Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to the partnership, Minister Bah said the Government remains eager to work closely with Plan International in promoting civic education, enhancing public awareness, empowering young people and encouraging active citizen participation in national development.

Speaking on behalf of Plan International, Regional Director Alasan Senghore reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s development priorities. He stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships that expand opportunities for children and young people while advancing sustainable development.

Sub-Regional Director Evariste Sindayigaya commended Minister Bah’s leadership and praised his advocacy for inclusive governance and feminist leadership. Referring to a quote displayed in the Minister’s office, “Another world is possible. She is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing,” Sindayigaya said it reflected the Minister’s unwavering commitment to advancing the rights of women, girls and young people.

He further described Minister Bah as a strong activist voice within government who continues to champion inclusive leadership and the empowerment of vulnerable groups across Sierra Leone.

The meeting forms part of Plan International’s ongoing engagement with government institutions to strengthen collaboration on programmes that promote the welfare of children and young people, gender equality, civic participation and inclusive national development.
