Former government minister Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has issued a formal threat of legal action against Liberty Online TV following the broadcast of claims made by Zainab Sheriff, the leader of the Wi Duty The Lappa Movement. The claims, which questioned Blyden’s competence and integrity as a political figure, were subsequently removed from the platform of Truth Media, prompting a strong public response from Blyden.
In a public statement, Blyden commended Truth Media for deleting what she termed a "short extract of those LIES," while simultaneously cautioning the outlet against compromising its professional standards by emulating Liberty Online TV. She explicitly warned, "No need to have your platform go downwards into Liberty TV gutter realms when I take legal action SOON.”
The controversy centers on remarks by Zainab Sheriff, who criticized Blyden as "incapable and self-serving" and cited her absence from travel during previous elections. Sheriff further alleged that Blyden sought to obtain personal information about her child during a period of imprisonment.
Blyden asserts that Liberty Online TV's dissemination of these claims is unacceptable and has indicated her intent to pursue legal accountability against the outlet. This episode has ignited public discussion regarding the standards of political discourse, media responsibility, and the potential legal consequences for broadcasting unverified or defamatory content. As of now, Liberty Online TV has not issued a formal response, and Blyden's legal team has not disclosed specific planned actions.
