A local fitter, Alpha Kargbo, appeared before the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, facing serious charges of larceny.
The case was initiated by Messie Maheni Kamara, who accused Kargbo of stealing various vehicle parts from her garage at Waterloo. The allegations have raised concerns over security and integrity within the vehicle repair industry.
Kargbo stands charged with two counts of larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. According to the charge sheet, between 2023 and the present, he allegedly stole parts from two trucks a DAF truck (ARK 660) and a Mercedes-Benz truck (AQM 644) both stored at New York Garage in Waterloo.
The stolen items reportedly include a PACCAR PX-5, air intake, exhaust system, alternator, differential locks, air supply system, and other valuable parts, collectively valued at over Le383,000.
During proceedings, Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah explained the charges to Kargbo, who pleaded not guilty.
The defendant, unrepresented in court, was served with legal documents to prepare his defense. Bail was denied due to the seriousness of the allegations and the risk of flight.
ASP Ibrahim Mansaray, prosecuting the case, requested an adjournment to call the first witness. The magistrate granted the request, and the matter was adjourned to January 13th, 2026, for further hearing.
The case has attracted attention within the community, raising questions about asset security in vehicle maintenance facilities. It underscores the importance of accountability and vigilance in safeguarding property, particularly in a city striving to enhance trust and safety for its residents.
As Kargbo awaits his next court appearance, the proceedings remain a reminder of the consequences of theft and dishonesty, with the upcoming session being critical in delivering justice for the complainant.
