In a recent ruling at the High Court in Kenema on December 16, 2025, Resident Judge His Lordship, Hon. Justice Abdul Sheriff, sentenced two individuals for the unlawful possession and use of prohibited drugs, in contravention of Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act 2008.

Lahai Sannoh, a 45-year-old diamond miner, received a seven-year imprisonment term after pleading guilty to possessing 14 wraps of a substance suspected to be Kush, a prohibited drug, in Konia Kpidima village on November 14, 2025. Defence Counsel Patrick Kamara of the Legal Aid Board submitted a plea in mitigation, which the court considered alongside the guilty plea.

Separately, Mariama Kebbie, a 45-year-old trader, was sentenced to six years' imprisonment. She was apprehended on November 6, 2025, in Dauda Town, Kenema, with 40 wraps of suspected Kush. Ms. Kebbie also pleaded guilty, with her counsel pleading for leniency, citing her role as a caregiver to young children.

In both cases, Justice Sheriff ordered the public destruction of the seized exhibits. The matters were successfully prosecuted by State Counsel Andrew F. Kamara.
