Government officials, development partners, and district representatives have convened in Kenema to review and endorse a long-term investment plan aimed at strengthening healthcare services in Bombali District.
The meeting, organized by GOAL Sierra Leone in partnership with the Ministry of Health and local councils, focused on improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) conditions in healthcare facilities. The initiative forms part of a broader pilot program being implemented across five districts: Bombali, Kambia, Kenema, Kono, and Moyamba.
Opening the session, Prince Kamara outlined the objectives of the review, emphasizing the importance of coordinated investment in WASH infrastructure to enhance healthcare delivery. Innocent Thompson provided a detailed presentation on the plan’s methodology, findings, and key recommendations, setting the stage for in-depth stakeholder engagement.
Discussions centered on defining institutional roles and responsibilities in delivering sustainable WASH services, with Martyn Famokoni leading a session on accountability and collaboration among stakeholders.
Participants later broke into groups to critically examine various components of the investment plan, including cost implications and implementation feasibility. Group representatives presented their analyses, identifying areas for adjustment, including sections to be strengthened, modified, or removed.
The outcomes of these deliberations are expected to guide revisions to the draft document and strengthen the final investment plan. Once finalized, the plan is anticipated to significantly improve WASH services in healthcare facilities, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for residents of Bombali District.
